Under the Assumption

" Under the Assumption "

by Suzán Jiván

A welter of sentiment
transcending pretension
as stubbornly emotionless
under the assumption
of more-than-one latest lover
not saying much
like many a sculpture
overshadowed by younger
enviable luster
Broadening the story
with more affection than regret
as instructive benefit
gently tweaked by the fond memories
of a closet beatnik
feeling like the padding
in the costumes worn by a posse
of the past
Looking back grappling
with multi-character absurdist attacks
on the futility of language as chitchat
of a less-than-flattering cast
increasingly in demand
with wisecracks and flashbacks
in a riot of spangles...
